Editor's Notes: Vans' presence in the world of skateboarding is undisputed, but if you're unexposed to surf culture, chances are you didn't know they made surf shoes. Within Vans' waffle-soled archive is a lineup of surf-performance booties that offer a refined take on the tooling that makes Vans such a good match for skateboarders. Silhouettes such as the Surf Boot 2 have served as the been of inspiration in the creation of the new Boot Skoot LX.

Envisioned as a bridge between the needs of a surfer and their onshore style, the Boot Skoot LX takes a range of design cues from neoprene surf booties and elevates them. The shoe's foundations are full of references to the cold-water Surf Boot 2, from the stretch neoprene midsection, high-top silhouette, and the shape of the leather and rubber overlays. With the ankle-length, velcro strap, and laceless slip-on design, you'd be forgiven for mistaking these for bootleg Margiela Futures.

Although style takes precedence over function, perforation is visible within the neoprene portions of the sneaker, affording it updated breathability and comfort. Most interestingly, the sneaker ditches the traditional gum color of Vans' iconic waffle soles, opting for a translucent blue reminiscent of Air Jordan ice soles, instead. Additional details such as the red heel tab and "Sidestripe" affirm that these are, in fact, of the Vans family and not part of a Tron Legacy's costume design.

The Vault by Vans Boot Skoot LX will arrive in two finishes of "True White" and "Black", both of which feature subtle "Checkerboard" detailing.
