Double Tap to Zoom

With every drop of every degree, we find ourselves retreating deeper and deeper back into the four walls of our cozy homes. Now, if that works for you like it works for me, this increased time spent indoors makes one review certain interior decisions. More specifically, it motivates entire overhauls on the home decor front.

I love a homeware thrift, don't get me wrong, but there just happen to be certain items that are difficult to obtain second hand, or that are so specific not just any dupe or almost-lookalike will suffice.

One immediate area the mind wanders to is the couch, and everything that belongs on it, such as throws and pillows. Propped before a screen of your choosing, it's best but an island of comfort, and nothing without a warm, fuzzy blanket. Extra points if said blanket could double as a stylish scarf à la Lenny Kravitz. Further extra points for dimmed lights and an aromatic lit candle.

When you're not human burrito-ing on the sofa, you might be busy prepping the potluck you're having some friends over for. Half the fun of such events lies within setting the table in those fancy plates you inherited from grandma, nifty flea market finds, and a few quirky splurges.

There's no swooning over the hostess or host's heartfelt attention to detail when guests have nothing to scoot up to the delightfully decked surface with. I, for one, appreciate a mix of modern and nostalgic, warm and cold colors and textures, for an eclectic atmosphere reflective of one's facetted tastes.

Whether in the company of loved ones, or to enjoy all by your lonesome; whether it's just you or you share your living space with housemates; there's nothing quite like embracing one's inner homebody – and letting it spend a couple extra bucks on the goodies it craves.
