Moncler

Brand: 2 Moncler 1952

Season: Fall/Winter 2021

Buy: Moncler's website and stores

Editor's Notes: 2 Moncler 1952 may be one of the quieter Moncler Genius sub-labels, but that doesn't mean it makes lesser product. The line, designed by Sergio Zambon and an anonymous LA-based team, swaps inspiration every season, channeling different sub-cultures into a comprehensive collection: for FW21, 2 Moncler 1952 is off to Tokyo.

Appropriately, there are some thematic collaborations also on hand, mirroring the outdoorsy attitude that's currently dominating Rakuten Tokyo Fashion Week. No White Mountaineering here, but and wander and Suicoke collabs are on hand instead.

Suicoke is a familiar face for Moncler Genius, but this is the first time the footwear brand has partnered with a recurring Genius imprint, yielding an earthy take on the MOTO slide sandal and Pepper puffer slip-on.

and wander, meanwhile, lends its talents to a metallic puffer jacket and branded shoulder bag. These are pretty safe styles for the brand — it's better known for dynamic touches, like DYNEEMA textiles — but it's nice to see and wander with the luxe co-sign, signifying that its Issey Miyake-trained designers have crossed over to proper mainstream recognition.

Otherwise, 2 Moncler 1952's latest is packed with typically approachable items. There are knit tracksuits, there are angularly quilted cape-coats, there are gilets and parkas made of recycled nylon and polyester. It's Moncler's typically luxe winter wearables, shifted by a smattering of thematic seasonal flair.

The occasional pop art graphics jar against the more avant quilting shapes, but partner well enough with the saturated greens and graphics that grace other pieces. It'd have been nice to see Moncler double-down — or triple-down — on the collaborative side of things but, hey, can't have everything.
