Controversial rapper 6ix9ine (also known as Tekashi69) has been arrested, as TMZ reports. He was apprehended at New York's JFK airport upon returning from a European tour – the NYPD were responding to an outstanding warrant for his arrest for an alleged incident of choking a 16-year-old in a Houston, Texas shopping mall.

Speaking to TMZ, 6ix9ine's team expressed they were aware of the warrant, but feel the NYPD had no right to extradite the rapper to Texas for what is ultimately a "misdemeanor charge." The incident in question took place in January of this year.

This is far from 6ix9ine's first run-in with the law. In 2015, he pled guilty to charges of using a child in a sexual performance - namely, a 13-year-old girl being featured in explicit, unlawful scenarios in one of his music videos. Meanwhile, the New York Post reorted that the rapper was arrested in May of this year for driving without a license and allegedly assaulting a police officer.

In other news, a second suspect has been arrested for the murder of XXXTentacion. Get the scoop on that right here.
