ALD's Beautiful Blue New Balance Dad Shoe Goes the Distance
There's a certain level of assumed sophistication that comes with any Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance click up.
Having long since conquered the world of lifestyle sneakers, though, ALD is ready to flex its endurance muscles with its carbon-plated Rebel V5 sneaker that is quite literally built to go the distance.
As it stands, ALD has all but mastered the art of classic, prep-school steez. Add in New Balance's established dad shoe pedigree, and you get refined sneakers that are categorically simple. Nice? Of course. But still, systemically plain.
So color us surprised when ALD and New Balance deviated from their established playbook of muted neutrals and toned-down beiges to create what is surely one of the most fashion-forward marathon sneakers of the season.
Where other NB and ALD link-ups have leaned into minimalist simplicity, the V5 is a run-focused stunner that takes up space in the best way.
Up top, the Rebel V5 wears a thin mesh upper for enhanced breathability during long runs. Elsewhere, New Balance's FuelCell midsole makes prolonged comfort a priority, while carbon plates reduce fatigue for enhanced runs all around.
Naturally, all of these run-focused specs result in a sneaker that doesn't really look like any of its mild-mannered predecessors. This is a far cry from ALD's milk-toned New Balance Gator Run or the equally toned-down NB 1000 sneaker.
That's part of what makes the Rebel V5 sneaker, available on the New Balance website for $150, so special. It's a dad shoe, if dad shoes were designed for the track. I guess in the case of New Balance's speedy dad shoes, it's truly a marathon, not a sprint
