What We’re Saying: Angelo Baque is certainly familiar with ASICS, having collaborated with the brand multiple times for his Awake NY label. Now, however, the man himself is stepping into the spotlight, delivering a GEL-KAYANO 14 design that is marked with his name, not that of his brand.
Weeks ago, Baque took to Instagram to give us a first look at the multicolored GEL-KAYANO sneaker, which has been revitalized in recent months. Simply captioning the post, "AB for @asics," it's clear this is an Angelo Baque x ASICS affair instead of the usual Awake NY effort. Upon swiping through his Instagram Stories, we received a closer look at the shoe, which has obviously made it to a handful of seeded recipients.
It's undoubtedly the pops of color that draw attention to the design, as we see splashes of blue, orange, yellow, and green — just to name a few — coming together throughout. On the side of the shoe towards the heel, Baque's name emerges in Awake NY's signature font.
The GEL-KAYANO 14 came onto the scene in 2008 as a running model designed for long distances. Outfitted with ASICS' signature GEL cushioning technology, it is known for providing all-day comfort to whoever slips it on.
The Angelo Baque x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 “Rebirth of Cool” emerges as Awake NY has previously collaborated on the GEL-Preleus and the hybridized GEL-Kayano 5 360. This new design just may top them all, and it's dropping July 30 at noon EST on angelobaque.com.
