Ex Machina director Alex Garland and his next directorial project is unveiled with the first official trailer of Annihilation, an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s 2014 novel of the same name.

The upcoming motion picture stars Natalie Portman, who portrays as a scientist named Lena and is part of an expedition tasked with exploring an area which has been taken over by a mysterious force. Joined by an anthropologist, psychologist and surveyor, it’s clear that the place has a very strange effect on anyone who enters it.

Also starring Jeniffer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac, enjoy the trailer above.

Annihilation hits theaters on Friday, February 23, 2018.
