Editor's Notes: Metallic sneakers aren't easily executed; there's a fine line between delivering an ultra-futuristic banger and delivering something best described as tacky.

Over the years, we've seen many attempts to knock it out of the park with silver, gold, and a full spectrum of metallic tones; within that, countless failures and stumbles at the first hurdle; amongst it all, though, are some top-tier finishes.

It's impossible to talk about metallic sneakers without throwing some love in Nike's direction; after all, the Swoosh mastered the art when it shared the Air Max 97 "Silver Bullet" with the world, less so with the "Gold Bullet," but a successful release nonetheless.

Beyond 97s, its Foamposites have always struck strongest in a metallic finish. It's not all about Nike though; ASICS knows how to handle a shiny palette, perhaps with even more finesse than the Swoosh.

With its catalog of retro-futuristic runners, ASICS has delivered hot hitter after hot hitter, with the GEL-Kayano 14 being a particular favorite for metallic panels – just ask JJJJound.

Now, metallics return to the silhouette in a perfect blend of blue, silver, and turquoise on a navy base, resulting in what may end up being the strongest metallic sneaker of the year when all is said and done.
