What We’re Saying: Diadora is bringing back 2009’s Mythos 280 as part of a highly limited run of just 600 pairs. The Diadora Mythos series debuted in the ’90s, however, the shift seen across the industry towards bringing more ’00s retros back over the past year will have been the catalyst for selecting 2009’s Mythos 280.

The release celebrates Gelindo Bordin, the first Italian ever to win the marathon gold medal — which occurred at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. Bordin is now the sports marketing and merchandising director at Diadora. To commemorate his victory, the Mythos 280 features a laurel wreath on the tongue.

The sneaker’s overall aesthetic is very ’00s, featuring a silver mesh upper that looks as futuristic today as it did 22 years ago. Only 600 pairs will be released to the public via Diadora’s own online store, as well as select retail partners worldwide. So if you want one, don’t sleep.

Take a look at the Diadora Mythos 280 above and watch for its release this weekend.
