Editor’s Notes: For SS21, habitual collaborator and art collector Kim Jones enlisted Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo to work on the new collection, which began production in December of last year. Artistic director of Dior Kim Jones – who spent his childhood in Africa and considers the continent his home – explains how the collaboration came to fruition.

“We started working on the Summer ideas in Miami last year, when Mera Rubell introduced us to Amoako Boafo’s work at the Rubell Museum" says Jones, "I loved the fact of working with an African artist, especially from Ghana, which was close to my family’s heart. This artistic and cultural dialogue is a prolongation of my collaborations with different artists whose work I admire. Amoako Boafo’s art touched me profoundly and inspired me for this collection.”

Among the striking beretssurprising cummerbunds, and leather shorts, the SS21 collection is notable for the way it thoughtfully translates Boafo's tactile finger-painting technique onto plush sweatshirts and brightly-colored roll-necks.
