That tension sits at the heart of Dolomite’s SAXIFRAGA 3.0 | Nature Awakening capsule. Named after an Alpine flower whose roots can push through rock, Saxifraga literally means “stone breaker.” Delicate petals, serious determination. Quite the résumé.
For its latest chapter, Dolomite takes that stubborn mountain spirit downtown. Nature Awakening imagines the urban landscape not as nature’s opposite, but as its next obstacle. Asphalt cracks become flowerbeds. Concrete walls become climbing frames. The metropolitan grey gets a green paint job, whether it asked for one or not.
Naturally, the capsule needed footwear built for both sides of the equation.
Enter the 54 Low, Dolomite’s outdoor icon recast for the concrete jungle. Its hairy suede upper brings the texture, while a sharply contrasting polyurethane band gives the silhouette a graphic jolt. This is not hiking footwear trying to disguise itself as a minimalist city sneaker. It knows where it came from, and it looks better for it.
Underfoot, a Vibram® sole borrows its texture from rough asphalt, grounding the shoe firmly in gorpcore territory. Mountain DNA up top, city grit underneath. It is rugged enough to suggest adventure, even if today’s expedition only stretches from the subway to the nearest natural wine bar.
That is the appeal of SAXIFRAGA 3.0. It does not force a choice between technical and stylish, outdoors and urban, practical and expressive. It simply lets them grow into one another.
