Bucherer's signature shade of blue is one of the watch industry's most recognizable shades, whether it's gracing the Swiss watch brand's inimitable timepieces or a motorcycle. So when you see Hublot's signature Big Bang Unico in the rich hue, it's a little jarring, in a good way. Worlds collide!

Back in 2018, Bucherer and Hublot first came together to create a bespoke Hublot Classic Fusion. This was perhaps the pair testing the collaborative waters, realizing the watch in muted bronze and saving Bucherer's brilliant blue for the watch face.

This go-round, the LVMH-owned Hublot is going all-out with the Big Bang Unico Bucherer BLUE (all-caps, please), available on Bucherer's website for £38,000 (about $51,760) in an exclusive edition of 10 pieces.

Not only has Bucherer Blue wholly transformed the Big Bang Unico's visage, but a series of new and progressive materials figure into its makeover.

“This collaboration demonstrates the strength and vision of both brands, by combining different materials: A bezel made of blue sapphire, a titanium case, and transparent blue dial and strap," said Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe.

Indeed, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Bucherer BLUE is a study in contrasts, juxtaposing a burly titanium case against a sapphire bezel — itself a first for Hublot — skeleton dial, and soft rubber straps, the nearly all rendered in that unmistakable shade of blue (or is it BLUE?)

Luxury collaborations are all the rage these days but the watch industry doesn't have quite so many crossovers, unless you count HODINKEE's exclusives or the special G-SHOCKs.

It's fun seeing labels as luxurious as Hublot and Bucherer mingling, especially with something as dramatic as the Big Bang Unico Bucherer BLUE. If watch companies are gonna come together for a co-branded timepieces, at least let it be as visually interesting as this.
