Milan had a buzz running through it last weekend — and no, not just from the espresso shots. When La Marzocco brought its signature coffee culture event Out of the Box back to Superstudio Più after ten years off the grid, the air felt different. With the theme “Roots & Wings”, the day balanced La Marzocco’s heritage with a curious eye on what’s next for coffee, design, and the people shaping both worlds.

The morning kicked off with open brewing sessions, machine demos, and espresso-fueled catchups between baristas, roasters, and design heads. By midday, the focus shifted from machines to creative minds with a full lineup of industry talks diving into the future of coffee culture. For the Collaboration & Design talk, we joined La Marzocco’s head designer Stefano della Pietra, the mind behind their custom workshop, along with design leads from Victorinox and Porsche.

Right in the middle of it all was the reveal of some of the finest new La Marzocco barista tools. All premiering that week, visitors got a first look at the new Jay Grinder, plus two new Modbar brewing devices. Of course, the new Victorinox x La Marzocco tool also couldn't miss for those of you who want their coffee utensils to feel as sharp as their knives (because for some people, morning coffee is in fact that serious).

Throughout the space, people were testing out different espresso machines like the K90s and Minis, engineers were tweaking pressure points and baristas were swapping workflow tips. Around every corner, installations connected the brand’s past to its future, with nods to art, design, and culture woven throughout. Limited-edition collabs with Porsche and Aimé Leon Dore sat alongside espresso stations where people were pulling their own shots, concocting new flavor profiles, and comparing crema. As the day wound down, the machines quieted, lights dimmed, and a DJ turned the space into a caffeine-fuelled afterparty.

If Milan taught us anything this weekend, it’s that collaboration, when it’s done with care, still hits different. And that coffee, at its best, will always be about connection, craft, and a little bit of magic in between.
