Louis Vuitton has acquired the second-largest diamond ever from Lucara Diamond Corp. and will be fashioning it into a collection of jewelry. According to Bloomberg, the 1,758-carat Sewelo diamond was found at Lucara's Botswana mine in 2019.

While it's been reported that the diamond is approximately the size of a tennis ball, it remains to be seen how much the Sewelo is worth and how valuable the polished diamonds will be in turn.

By comparison, the world's previous second-largest diamond, found in 2015 by Lucara, was the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona, which sold for $53 million. An 813-carat stone that sold for a record $63 million was also found in the same mine.

The largest diamond ever discovered was the 3,106-carat Cullinan, found in South Africa in 1905. This particular piece was cut into multiple polished gems, with the two largest being the Great Star of Africa and the Lesser Star of Africa set in the Crown Jewels of Britain.
