Since 1981, American heritage brand Merrell has been a certified trailblazer. Originally focused on performance mountain boots, the label has adeptly pivoted, growing beyond classic hikers to become a global force. Founded more recently, Merrell 1TRL reimagines archival silhouettes through a modern lens, blending technical performance with streetwear sensibilities and curated collaborations.

Under this year’s 520M canopy, the brand spotlighted a handful of new and archival models, bringing elements of Merrell’s manufacturing and design processes to ISPO. The studio-inspired space housed archival materials, shoe molds, pattern and tech packs, and other elements that opened a window into the minds and methods of Merrell’s designers.

The updated Agility Peak 6 features updated trail credentials like a new FloatPro foam midsole, in combination with the always-reliable Vibram MegaGrip, creating a silhouette that aims to max out durability and reliability stats.

The Merrell Cham Redux—a silhouette that was recently touched by Montreal skate imprint Dime—also appeared in the Merrell space. With its unmistakable flowing lines and unique upper overlays, the Cham Redux takes its design DNA from an archival Merrell model named the Chameleon. The updated version retains its heritage but introduces modern updates, like a toggle lace system for easy on-and-off, and a unique “2 Tone Torn Camo” colorway.

Named after one of the world’s top climbing destinations, the Moab franchise is another that Merrell fans hold near and dear to their hearts, and their front doors. The classic hiking shoe has undergone several design iterations over the years, but 2025 brings the Moab Speed into the spotlight. Designed using insights from Merrell's best-selling Moab hiking boot, the Moab Speed introduces several new innovations this season—the Moab Speed 3, the Moab Speed 2 Sport, the Moab Speed 2 GTX BL and the Moab Speed 2 VENT 2K. These new models build on the franchise's reputation for durability and all-purpose versatility, while introducing a modern design and best-in-class materials, making them a first-line defence against challenging terrain.

Rounding off Merrell's activation at 520M was an orienteering challenge. The event took guests out into the city and tasked them to navigate their way through a series of checkpoints marked on a printed map, all the while putting Merrell's footwear to the test.
