Mfpen Brings New Balance’s 991 to the Dark Side of Luxury
Mfpen's sharpened up New Balance's Made in UK 991v1 dad shoe
On its own, New Balance's 991 sneaker is already pretty temperate. Add in a muted leather from New Balance's British Flimby factory, and a tame sneaker becomes even more restrained.
In collaboration with Danish-based menswear brand Mfpen, New Balance digs its heels into its minimilast roots with dark gray muted suede. The Made in UK 991v1 takes classic dad shoe DNA and transforms it into sophisticated distinction.
Available in a limited collaboration, the Mfpen New Balance 991 represents a darker side of NB's muted luxury talents.
New Balance's Made in UK line features premium, handcrafted NB sneakers that are categorically sleeker than their beefier Made in USA counterparts like the 992 or the 990v4.
These streamlined sneaker profiles are made in New Balance's Flimby Factory in Cumbria, UK, where fine pig suede mesh is carefully crafted into elegant, elderly dad shoes.
The enhanced sophistication of these sneakers makes them the perfect canvas for Mfpen, as the Copenhagen brand is known for its elevated minimalism. In addition to the dark suede 991v1, New Balance also stripped the "N" logo off a classic gray NB 992. Want to make an aged dad shoe high fashion? Strip it for parts. That's the Mfpen method anyway.
