New Balance Just Made White-Sole Runners Look a Little Silly
Running shoes have been getting increasingly weird lately. The more technical they become, the more we seem to want to wear them nowhere near a running track. New Balance’s latest 1080 is another good example of the trend.
This is the 1080v15.
And, yeah, it’s a lot of shoe. The latest version has gone big on the cushioning, with a sculpted midsole and chunky proportions that give it that proper modern runner look. This particular pair comes in a deep Cherry Leather shade with Black details, which makes all those exaggerated lines and panels stand out even more.
The upper is made from perforated mesh, with molded details running across the sides and around the heel. It’s busy without being completely chaotic, and there’s something quite satisfying about seeing all the different bits come together. You’ve got the familiar New Balance branding, too, because apparently even a shoe this futuristic still needs to tell you who made it.
Then there’s the Infinion Foam underfoot, bringing the cushioning and energy return you’d expect from a shoe built for actual running. But somehow, it’s the color that makes the biggest difference. The previous white-soled version now looks almost strangely dated and dull next to this much more monochromatic take. Same general idea, completely different effect.
But honestly, you don’t need to be running anywhere to appreciate this one. The 1080v15 has all the makings of a very good everyday sneaker.
