Editor’s Notes: New Balance is entering 2021 by introducing an all-new silhouette, the 57/40. The 57/40 is a reimagining of the brand's iconic 574 sneaker, set to launch this week in men's and women's colorways.

An update of the 574, the 57/40 also draws from the 5xx franchise. New Balance is marketing the new silhouette as the most "expressive" model in the 574 family, featuring classic 574 lines that have been altered to deliver a more modern offering.

The upper of the 57/40 points to the '80s and '90s, while the brand's signature "N" logo is enlarged on the side, similar to the 327. Below, the sole incorporates two midsoles stacked, one inspired by the '90s and the other a traditional 574 sole. The off-road outsole then references the 574's trail heritage.

New Balance's 57/40 launch collection comes with rainbow-colored details on a neutral background. Additional colorways will release throughout 2021 and beyond.
