Tyrese Maxey has been having a bit of a moment. The Philadelphia 76ers guard has established himself as one of the NBA’s quickest players, and now he’s got the signature sneaker to match.

Enter the New Balance Maxey V1.

Maxey’s first signature shoe with New Balance is, unsurprisingly, all about speed. The Philadelphia 76ers guard is known for flying around the court, and the Maxey V1 looks like it was designed with exactly that in mind. It’s streamlined and has enough going on around the upper to make it feel properly quick even when it’s standing still.

There’s some serious basketball business happening underfoot, too. FuelCell cushioning gives it a springy feel, while the TPU shank helps keep things stable when Maxey is cutting from one side of the court to the other. In other words, it’s built for someone who apparently has somewhere very important to be at all times.

Thankfully, you don’t have to be playing 40 minutes of NBA basketball to appreciate it. The blue and black colorway keeps the whole thing pretty clean, with the layered upper adding just enough texture to stop it feeling like another generic performance sneaker.

It’s Maxey’s shoe, but New Balance hasn’t gone overboard with the signature treatment. Instead, it feels like a genuinely wearable basketball sneaker that happens to have one of the NBA’s fastest players’ names attached to it.
