Jordan Brand presented James Whitner with a special-edition “Wings” Nike Air Jordan 4 during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina over the weekend. Whitner, founder of Social Status, was honored for being a leader in his community.

Social Status has a strong presence in North Carolina, with retail locations in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro. The retailer also places a big emphasis on engaging with its community. The special Air Jordan 4 Whittaker was presented with is Jordan Brand’s first-ever “Wings”-themed sneaker, and while specific release numbers have not been disclosed by Nike, we can assume this pair is a one-of-one

Wings is a initiative created by Nike to support education and provide special opportunities to those that may otherwise not get them. Wings builds relationships with teachers, mentors, and organizations to “unlock greatness through the power of education.”

“At Jordan we are committed to setting positive examples and inspiring all to achieve their fullest potential,” noted Larry Miller, former Jordan Brand President. “Wings makes the Jordan Brand vision a reality and allows us to inspire kids around the world to be the greatest at whatever they choose to do.”

During the NBA All-Star Weekend’s Own The Game invitational, Jordan Brand also presented six high-school athletes with college scholarships.
