After several seasons in the spotlight, Virgil Abloh’s Off-White™ has been outshone recently by the likes of Balenciaga and Gucci whose memeable output is hitting terminal velocity. But, quietly and confidently, Virgil’s label has been doing its thing and Off-White™ Fall/Winter 2021 is proof.
Named “Laboratory of Fun,” the new-season collection is a nod to Cedric Price’s 1961 Fun Palace, which was an idea for a London-based convention center that represented a “university of the streets.” Although the Fun Palace never came to fruition, Virgil was heavily influenced by the modernity and modularity of Price’s thinking.
Virgil’s in-progress style, complete with deconstructed elements hits an all-time high in Off-White™ Fall/Winter 2021 which just dropped at Luisaviaroma. Standout items like the ODSY-1000 sneakers, wool sweaters, and puffer jackets return but in understated monochrome palettes to form the bedrock of the collection.
