Sotheby's

Sotheby's has just launched an auction dedicated to some of the rarest Nike sneakers ever produced. Titled "Scarce Air," the online auction is open for bidding from today, March 18, to Monday, March 29.

"Scarce Air" consists of 50 rare and coveted Nikes, including select styles made in collaboration with athletes, musicians, and artists. Sotheby's has partnered with sneaker store English Sole to present the sale, which sees many sneakers appearing on the auction block for the first time.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with English Sole to present this carefully curated group of extremely rare sneakers, some of which have never surfaced in a public auction before. The collection is remarkably diverse, and touches everything from music, to art, to design and fashion," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectables. "From the coveted Air Jordan 1 ‘Shinedown’ to the Air Jordan 1 ‘colette’, the pairs are remarkably rare, and each have their own unique stories... We hope that we are able to honor the unique history of each through this offering."

In addition to the "Shinedown" and "colette" Jordan 1s, standouts from the Nike auction include a mismatched sample of Kanye West's Nike Air Yeezy 2 (estimated to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000), a pair that was never put into production but is signed by Kanye; the Nike Air Force 1 Entourage x UNDEFEATED x Fukijama Gold (estimated to fetch between $30,000 and $40,000), which was created for hit HBO TV show, Entourage; three versions of Eminem's highly coveted "Encore" Air Jordan 4 (estimated to fetch between $25,000 and $30,000); and three all-gold Air Jordans made for Usher (estimated to fetch between $18,000 and $24,000).
