Editor’s Notes: For its latest collaboration, adidas Consortium partners with French retailer, The Next Door, to work on two court-ready sneakers in the SC Premiere and A.R. Trainer. The project draws inspiration from the theater scene of The Next Door's hometown of Avignon, a place where enthusiasts venture to each year for its world-famous theater festival, festival d’Avignon.

Paying homage to festival d’Avignon, The Next Door x adidas Consortium SC Premiere and A.R. Trainer reference theatrical archetypes of comedy and tragedy, two forms that seem opposite initially, but share underlying themes, similar to the sneakers in the collaboration. The A.R. Trainer, with its shades of peachy-pink and soft mint green, serves as a celebration of comedy, drawing from classic harlequin costumes seen on the stage of the Comedia De L’Arte theater. The SC Premiere's minimalist white palette is a nod to tragedy, while the cardinal red accents symbolize the color of drapes on a stage.

Along with the SC Premiere and A.R. Trainer, which drop at select retailers today, August 24, The Next Door and adidas Consortium debut the latest episode of SHPTLKS centering around the French retailer and founder Nicolas Ivars.
