Vans’ Latest Skate Loafer Is Further Proof They Make a Great Pair
Vans and loafers have been getting suspiciously close lately. What started as a slightly odd pairing has quickly become one of those combinations that makes so much sense you wonder why nobody thought of it sooner. And just when we thought the two had exhausted their options, Vans has gone and made another pretty compelling case for the relationship.
Meet the Horsebit Skate Loafer.
It takes the familiar idea of a loafer, adds a horsebit across the vamp, then runs the whole thing through the Vans machine. The result is a low-slung suede slip-on that looks considerably more at home with a baggy trouser than the sort of outfit you’d traditionally associate with a loafer. It has the polish, sure, but none of the stiffness.
And this is where the Vans bit really earns its keep. Beneath all that horsebit business is the kind of skate-minded construction you’d expect from the brand, complete with PopCush cushioning and the unmistakable waffle outsole. Basically, Vans has taken one of fashion’s most buttoned-up shoes and loosened its tie.
At this point, calling Vans and loafers an odd couple feels a little outdated. They’re clearly getting on rather well.
