Just last week HBO announced the release date for its much-anticipated Watchmen series. Now ahead of the October 20 premiere, the network shares a new featurette providing us with detailed information about the show's storyline.

The clip includes insights from creator Damon Lindelof, as well as director/producer Nicole Kassell and series star Regina King. Lindelof begins the video by saying, “Watchmen examine how we, as a society, feel about heroes, most notably people who wear masks and fight crime."

"Our Watchmen honors the graphic novel without making it necessary to have read it in order to understand this new story,” he added.

In addition to revealing why the characters wear masks, the featurette gives us a look at various scenes from the series. Press play above to check it out.

HBO's Watchmen is an adaptation of the novel of the same name. The superhero drama takes place in an alternate reality in the United States during the Cold War, as superheroes and masked vigilantes have been outlawed because of their violent behavior.

Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens, Lous Gossett Jr., Andrew Howard, and Jean Smart star in Watchmen, which comes to HBO October 20.
