I think it’s safe to say that 1017 ALYX 9SM x Swedish House Mafia is one of those collaborations that falls into the category of releases nobody asked for.

I’m not saying it’s a bad collection per se (I’ll let you be the judge of that), just that I’m pretty certain nobody was banging down Matthew M Williams’ door demanding a collaboration with one of Scandinavia’s most renowned electronic house trio.

Since founding 1017 ALYX 9SM back in 2015, Williams’ choice of collaborations have arguably been the brand’s strongest asset, boasting drops with the likes of Dior, Moncler, and, most notably Nike, with whom they released some slides earlier this year.

But, when it comes to SHM, it all seems a little, well, out of the blue.

Centered around “craftsmanship, technique, and sustainable fabrication,” the collection — which is made up of tees, hoodies, and headwear — focuses on key graphic elements from 1017 ALYX 9SM and SHM, and remixes them into an exclusive pattern thread throughout the capsule.

Available online now, 1017 ALYX 9SM x SHM is a far cry from the aforementioned Zoom 005 Slide Williams released alongside Nike earlier this year, which was essentially a reworked take on the label’s Mono Slip-On silhouette.

Nevertheless, ALYX x SHM is here and there’s nothing you can do about it. Although if they were really focused on “sustainable fabrication,” they needn’t have bothered collaborating in the first place. But, we move.
