A$AP Bari Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault
A$AP Bari has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in a London hotel room, according to The Evening Standard.
Bari, whose real name is Jabari Shelton, admitted one count of sexual assault on Thursday after a video emerged of him attacking a woman in The Curtain Hotel in July 2017. The woman cannot be named for legal reasons.
The video shows the 27-year-old VLONE designer pulling bedsheets off a woman, while saying “you fucked my assistant, now you’re going to suck my dick.” Later in the video, Bari slaps her and says “shut the fuck up bitch,” as she tells him to "stop."
The London court heard how Bari first approached the victim as she waited for a taxi after the Wireless Festival in north London. She rejected his advances and went to the hotel with another man, named in court as AJ, but was awoken at five in the morning by Shelton entering the room.
Prosecuting, James Lofthouse said: "He seemed to react to her being present in bed with AJ.
"He pulled the duvet off and Your Honour has seen the footage of what occurred and indeed what was said."
Shelton was charged with two counts of sexual assault over the incident and had been expected to contend both after denying them at his initial hearing. Instead, he appeared in court to plead guilty to one of the charges and was ordered to pay a £4,000 fine and £2,500 compensation to his victim. He will also have to pay £2,500 in court charges.
