Highsnobiety

There comes a point when writing about fashion that I find some stuff is just a little too ridiculous to take seriously, take Prada’s $1,000 plain white tank top, for example, or anything YEEZY GAP.

That being said, every so often something lands on my little WFH desk that’s just too stupid to let lie, the latest of which coming from, of course, Balenciaga, who have dropped a pair of black bow shoelace earrings, setting you back a total of $261.

Now, at risk of sounding like a confused old man: these are literally just shoelaces, right?

Regardless of whether MATCHESFASHION describes them as an example of “Demna’s ability to incorporate everyday objects into the house’s jewelry collections,” they simply are shoelaces with earrings glued to them.

I’m not entirely sure why I’m surprised, mind. Only last week the label launched its infamous trash bag for $1,790 in three colors, and who can forget the $1,850 Paris Sneaker that looked like a shoe Tutankhamun would’ve worn.

While a pair of shoelace earrings might not be Balenciaga’s wildest release to-date – we’ll save that one for its X-Pander Sneakers – it’s undoubtedly one of its most overpriced, sharing the accolade with an $88 coffee cup and a $650 travel pillow.

I get that it’s a little hypocritical of me to sit here waxing lyrical about the price of luxury fashion when my work revolves around the damn thing, but cut me some slack, Balenciaga, FGS.

Anyway you can buy them on MATCHESFASHION's site or literally just make some of your own, doesn't bother me either way.
