Editor's Notes: When Andreas Aresti set out to create the brand Lourdes New York, he wanted to be America's next big luxury label. “Why are there no luxury American brands?” he asked when we interviewed him. “Why is there no American Mugler? Why isn’t there an American version of Jacquemus?”
Wanting to fill the gap in the market, it's fitting that Lourdes' signature style is an American icon of fashion design: jeans.
An American invention by Levi Strauss & Co., it was also an American fashion designer, Calvin Klein, who is credited with creating the first pair of designer denim. Lourdes is aiming to add to that American heritage with its jeans, and its pockets (all 20 of them).
The design, which has come to be the label's trademark item, comes in a relatively standard and unexciting slim fit with a mid-rise and classic silver-tone hardware, but it's the pockets that have made it a standout piece. Five small pockets run down both legs of the jeans, on the front and back, to cover the entire design.
While we have been raving about cargo pants and all of the carrying space that recent high-fashion options are providing, this pair of jeans is taking its dedication to pocket space to new levels.
Making a comeback for the brand's spring/summer 2022 collection, this time around the jeans are also joined by a pair of shorts. With logo graphics found on the left side, the shorts feature three pockets on either leg, however, the final one is sliced in half.
A Yeezy alumnus, who has also worked with likes of Gyspy Sport and Hood By Air, Aresti's newest drop brings with it more signatures of the brand. There's a selection of graphic hoodies and t-shirts that come in its typically boxy and copped fit along with a half zip sweater that is missing 90% of its body, a playful touch reminiscent of previous offerings.
