Mahershala Ali has officially signed on to star in the third season of True Detective, but despite having an Oscar-winning actor on board, HBO still hasn't given the series the green light to go into production.

Despite this, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys seems positive about the series, telling guests at the network's Television Critics Association event that he's read five finished scripts and that "they are terrific" and he's "very impressed and excited."

According to Bloys, the reason for the delay is finding the perfect director. "We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go," he said.
