The phrase “highly-anticipated” is thrown around a lot, but this time we mean it. Migos’ new album Culture II has been in the works ever since the Atlanta trio released their smash hit Culture, featuring “Bad & Boujee,” in January 2017.
Migos’ Culture 2, or Culture II, has been on our radar since at least last June, when posters for the album surfaced in Atlanta. Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset finally dropped the album’s high-octane first single “Motor Sport” in October featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
With Migos’ new album set to drop in late January, take a look at everything we know so far about Culture 2 below.
The album’s first single is “MotorSport” featuring Cardi B & Nicki Minaj
After months of teasing Culture II, Migos finally dropped “MotorSport” in October, featuring none other than rap heavyweights Cardi B and Nicki Minaj.
The Pharrell-produced “Stir Fry” will also appear on ‘Culture II’
Released in December, Migos’ latest track was the official song of the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
Quavo has confirmed the album is being mixed
Quavo revealed the album process was wrapping up, as he was up late at the studio on January 7 helping to mix the record with DJ Durel.
It’s set to release January 26, 2018.
In a New York Times profile on Migos’s record label Quality Control, the release date for the Atlanta trio’s highly anticipated Culture 2 is revealed to be January 2018. Previously, Migos said the follow-up to their smash hit Culture album would drop in 2017.
Back in June, posters reading “Culture II Coming Soon” surfaced in their home town, and Quavo chanted the same phrase onstage at a concert that same month.
With the 1st anniversary of Culture imminent, it would make sense if the trio celebrated its birthday with Culture II. With an Instagram post on January 16, Migos confirmed the album will be released January 26, 2018.
Migos say Culture II is a “masterpiece”
In an interview with Montreality back in September, the Atlanta trio deemed their latest work a masterpiece: “Culture 2 is a masterpiece man..We setting a trend, we started this whole lil wave, we started the whole genre, the whole flow, the whole melody. Ain’t nobody right now who can say they ain’t took our flow. We ain’t tripping, we never did trip. Hip-hop has changed in a big way, We changed it.”
Kanye West has contributed production along with Quavo himself
Back in December, rumours circulated that Kanye West was executive producing Culture II, after the rapper and fashion designer was spotted leaving a building with Migos. Offset shut down the hearsay at his recent 26th birthday bash, saying “Nah, nah, nah… just wait on it.”
However, in an interview with Los Angeles radio station “Real 92.3,” the group revealed that Kanye has indeed contributed production work – by assisting Quavo himself to produce beats. Says Quavo: “I did a couple beats with Kanye, me and [DJ] Durel. It’s crazy. He’s got a crazy, different feel. He’s got all his old shit that he had from like coming in making beats and he still use his original box and his original keyboards. He’s still got his old hard drives, and all his samples and all the beat. Just to see that he still cherish the old stuff that he came in with, know that he still respect the grind.”
Aside from Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, no other features have been confirmed
Although no other guest artists have been confirmed, it wouldn’t be crazy if artists like Lil Yachty and Gucci Mane were to appear on Culture II, as they recently collaborated with Migos on the Quality Control: Control the Streets Vol. 1 compilation.
Since Quavo and Travis Scott recently linked up on their collaborative album Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, it would also make sense if Scott lent some bars to Culture II.
It’s no secret that Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is also a huge fan of Migos, so hang tight to see if Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff decided to include him on their new album.
The full production credits have arrived
Quavo has shared the full production credits for the album, an eye-popping list of producers that includes Kanye, Pharrell, Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and more.
