Nike's New Air Max Sneaker Is Liquid Poison
Style is fluid, and so is Nike's slickest new Air Max. The Nike Air Liquid Max shoe is the culmination of 40 years of Air Max heritage materialized in one sleek frog-like package.
Beyond embodying various states of matter (air, water, and so on) the Nike Air Liquid Max sneaker wears a slim, three-layer upper with a frog-inspired colorway that is totally slimed-out.
In the spirit of taking leaps, the amphibian inspiration doesn't stop there. The Air Liquid Max's webbed outsole is heavily inspired by the Poison Dart frog, the Swoosh's latest and slimiest muse.
For what it's worth, the actual Poison Dart frog's spotted exterior is considerably fly, even if a single touch can cause full-body paralysis. Beauty is pain?
Keeping with the theme of fluidity, the signature Air Max units we all know and love look a bit different. Instead of one or two big air bubbles, the Air Liquid Max sits atop a web of small, flexible air units, designed to support fluid steps akin to walking on air or, maybe, lily pads. Different look but same bounce-forward ideology.
A shiny chrome Swoosh gives the sneaker a liquid metal touch, which adds to the aquatic vibe flowing through this new generation Air Max.
Like the Poison Dart frog, the Air Liquid Max is pretty but dangerous, though in a much different way. The Air Max is one of the most established offerings from the Swoosh, and there are inherent risks involved with adding any stylistic deviation to established style hallmarks. Will it take off? Will it flop? Sure, this isn't as dangerous as touching an actual Poison Dart frog, but it's still a bit risky.
If any shoe is up to the challenge, though, it's the Air Liquid Max sneaker, soon available on the Nike website for $230. If you're feeling froggy — jump.
