The announcement of Palace x Gucci was one that we certainly didn’t see coming. It’s the kind of thing that, had it been announced on April 1, you’d have laughed it off as an April fool's prank. But, when we saw the first images and got a hands-on look at the products, Palace x Gucci just made so much sense.
It’s yet more proof that Alessandro Michele’s Gucci has no creative limits. Its signature cocktail of luxury and retro aesthetics is so strong at this point that it can be applied to any style and make it unmistakably Gucci. The same can be said of Palace; imagery like the Tri-Ferg logo is a bold signpost in the modern zeitgeist. Put the two together, and you’ve got the recipe for greatness.
Ranging from archetypal Gucci staples like Horsebit loafers to skate decks with Palace’s name literally written all over them, Palace x Gucci explores each brand’s identity, occasionally splicing in flashes of the other. Take the signature Gucci monogram, for example; it’s now embellished with Palace’s P logo. Or look to the aforementioned Tri-Ferg logo, which has Gucci text in place of the usual Palace.
All of this to say that it’s already a classic. But classics don’t stick around for very long nowadays. That’s why we’re shopping Palace x Gucci at resale instead.
