Architect Jesse Bennett's Planchonella House, located in Queensland, Australia, makes the most of its tropical surroundings. Submerged in the thick of the lush rainforest, the house aims to be harmonious with the environment, rather than damaging to it. In order to preserve visual integrity, the ridges of the house and the large flat roof give off the appearance that they are incorporated into the tree canopy. Walls and columns are kept to a minimum, allowing for unfettered views of the landscape, a functional approach to space, and the use of passive design principles.
