Pusha T Needs Four Hours of Alone Time Every Day
Pusha T is always early. He wakes up every morning at 5 a.m. No matter what he got into the night before or has on tap for the day ahead, the 5 a.m. alarm is nonnegotiable. That’s the only time of day that Pusha gets to be alone. The rapper attributes much of his success to these early hours of freedom, which are best enjoyed with a cup of black coffee.
He’s even early to the Highsnobiety office. It’s the first day of fall (and it's actually cold in New York City), and even still, Push pulls up 30 minutes ahead of his scheduled call time, suited up in all-black Louis Vuitton workwear. He’s the first to admit he doesn’t know how to change a tire or oil and he will probably (definitely) never learn, but even still, he loves him some workwear.
“I’m a luxury tracksuit magnet,” says Pusha. “For me, everything should be as comfortable as pajamas. That’s the goal. $1,000, $2,000 joggers. A jacket and some good layering is a great day for me — that's a comfortable day for me.”
Comfortable, but also useful. Pusha knows a thing or two about hard work. This past year has been nothing but proof of concept, stamped by Clipse’s first Grammy win and a major comeback tour, but now, Pusha’s consistent worldbuilding takes on maybe its most tangible form yet. Grindin’ Coffee, devised in collaboration with Pharrell and Lavazza, is not only an on-the-nose homage to Pusha’s 2002 track of the same name (also produced by Pharrell), but also an even more on-the-nose reflection of his devotion to the #grind.
With berries and clean proteins on his rider, a strict workout regimen (currently soundtracked by old R&B), and a just as strict commitment to finding the spa in every city he’s in, Pusha seems more locked than ever. The coffee, though, definitely helps.

You’re famously consistent. Do you have a routine for your mornings ?
I’m an early bird, and setting myself up for success starts with my early mornings. 5 a.m. is when my day starts and I make coffee. I’ve figured out that I need four hours a day to myself. At 5, no one else in my house is awake, so I am guaranteed to get two hours of alone time there, and then I try to find two more hours for myself midday, usually around 2 p.m. Outside of those hours, reality kicks in. I’ve got two sons, so then it’s all about them.
What’s the Pusha T method for making coffee?
I make my coffee with a Fellow drip coffee maker, first thing every morning. Whether I’m waking up and writing or going to the gym, coffee is always first.
When you started drinking coffee during the It’s Almost Dry sessions, it was black coffee. Have you switched it up?
Still black coffee, man. It’s my morning fuel. I’m very purposeful and task-driven. That’s my get up and go.
How many cups do you drink each day?
I would say two. Maybe a couple more espressos. Nothing past 1p.m. That’s the cutoff.
You and Pharrell have collaborated across a ton of different disciplines. What’s the common thread?
When Pharrell and I collaborate, people witness world-building. Once you get a bird’s-eye view, you see that it’s a world of taste. It’s raising the bar for hip-hop. We’re trying to show how far hip-hop can go, specifically street-driven hip-hop. So when you see us in Louis, and you see us working with Lavazza, these are all things that should inform the fans — who we call family — that anything is possible.
What does the “grind” look like for you these days? Has the meaning of the word changed at all since you dropped “Grindin’” back in 2002?
The definition of “grinding” hasn’t changed at all for me. Grinding has always been about putting in the work, effort, and sweat equity. The grind comes before the finished product, and that’s what the word has always been about: getting to it, and executing it.
What about flexing? It used to be all about the cars and the chains. What’s the new flex in 2026?
How we look out for others. The opportunities we're providing for other people. That's how you flex. The new version of shit-talking is less about yourself and more about what you do for others. We've done it all for ourselves. How many millionaires can you make?.
What does your show-day routine look like?
My show-day routine still starts early. I work out in the morning and after that, I relax all day. I’m a heavy spa person, so whichever city I’m in, I’m looking for a spa. I’m finding the hotel spa and I’m enjoying it. I do nothing on show days other than work out. Absolutely nothing.
What’s on your tour rider these days?
Man, our rider is so healthy these days. Our rider is fruits, berries, whatever clean proteins we can have. We have the occasional tequila for friends and family.
How has touring with your brother changed since you first hit the road 20+ years ago?
Tour life is very structured. It's very structured and it’s very serious. We're always on time. We don’t really fuck around. We just toured with Linkin Park, and that was the most luxurious tour I've ever been on — luxurious and timely. We were in Norway eating Caribbean food from the chefs! But most importantly, everything was on stage at their proper set times, and it was just very calculated and strict in that way, which we all enjoyed.
