What at first glance looks like a pretty unspectacular photo of Robert Pattinson holding hands with his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse has been popping up on my timeline recently and I couldn't really work out why.

Compared to the chaotic RPattz moments that have gone viral previously, this one seemed pretty tame. I mean, it's not like when he admitted to having dinner with a stalker or was snapped sleeping in a dog cage — but I had underestimated how intense the inseam debate can get.

The thing that caused this particular photo to do the rounds on social media is the actor's huge cargo shorts.

Whether he knew it or not, Pattinson stepped out in his oversized beige pair just as over-the-knee style shorts were gaining newfound popularity.

The five-inch inseam, once regarded as the perfect shorts length has been thrown off its pedestal by long shorts. Instead of trying to find a pair that sits in the perfect sweet spot down the thigh, the debate has developed to how far below the knee your shorts should be hitting. And some people are reaching 3/4 length territory.

Last month's Spring/Summer 2023 menswear shows presented a host of long shorts that will be put on the market next summer from Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, and Kenzo, just to name just a few.

Baggy pairs of cargo shorts such as those worn by Pattinson are not the only pair of roomy shorts to make naught's inspired return, but they are being joined by baggy jorts (aka jean shorts) which are currently undergoing a revival.

Just like the huge suit that he wore during his Batman press tour, the 36-year-old knows how to get us talking with his oversized clothes. For this look, he matched the huge shorts with a plain T-shirt and cap, but the Palace x adidas sneakers are the cherry on top that makes this outfit one of his most iconic to date.

To help you get the same look, check out the outfit we have put together below.
