Remember James Dean's Levi's Denim Jacket? Now It's Levi's Denim Bomber
When signature Levi's denim meets warped sacai tailoring, it’s an experimental mash-up of worlds.
Debuted nearly a year ago as part of the Japanese luxury brand's fashion show in Paris, sacai is now finally launching its latest collaborative Levi's capsule. And it comes complete with a campaign starring actor Chase Sui Wonders and model Chandler Frye.
For the designs and their dedicated imagery, sacai founder Chitose Abe looked to the late, great James Dean for inspiration.
In doing so, she subverted Dean’s quintessentially American look by giving the classic jeans-and-white-tee the avant-garde treatment.
Be it in cut, proportions, or the sheer architecture of how these pieces are (de-)constructed, all of them are pushing the boundaries of what is highly sculptural yet still, in the end, very wearable denim.
Knowing sacai, there is, of course, no shortage of nylon bomber jackets here either.
A cotton trimmed, yellow-stitched and reversible version of the house's hero product is available, too.
Elsewhere, find gold-buttoned overalls, Frankenstein'd workwear, double-breasted indigo blazers, and exaggeratedly wide-legged trousers, huge cuffs and belts included.
Defiantly modern? Yes. Entirely retro? Somehow also yes.
Dropping May 28, sacai's concept-denim can be bought at Levi's website.
Having defined classic American cool, James Dean would've surely appreciated this creative reimagining of his go-to uniform.
