Snow Peak Outerwear is Both Fire — and Fire-Resistant
Thanks to the rise of gorpcore, we've never been more obsessed with having outerwear that can repel rain, demonstrated by water droplets beading off it — does anyone else remember when people were wearing Arc'teryx jackets in the shower for TikTok?
Well, for the Japanese outdoor label Snow Peak, being protected against one of the elements isn't quite enough.
The brand utilizes fabrics that can fend off both water and fire thanks to its highly durable finish. And no, I'm not suggesting that you try this out by standing in a fire for a video to post on your socials.
Founded as a passion project for accomplished mountaineer Yukio Yamai back in 1958, the label's fire-resistant outerwear is designed so that sparks and embers from a campfire don't burn a hole in your expensive new piece of technical outerwear (which will be music to the ears of anyone who has had to painstakingly add a nylon repair patch to a burn hole in a jacket).
These uber-functional materials are added to a range of pieces that present the label's ability to effortlessly straddle the line between lifestyle and top-tier performance.
This includes heavy-duty two-layer down jackets and a utility vest with ample pocket room for camping accessories as well as a black, knee-length mac jacket that's suitable for both formal occasions as well as casual days on the mountain trail.
