Paraboot's Latest Experiment? Streetwear (EXCLUSIVE)
For an age-old French family-run shoemaker, Paraboot gets around. Skaters have doodled all over its chunky leather derbies, Dover Street Market turned them weirdly fluffy, and even high-tech hiking labels are succumbing to its old-school leatherwork. It’s getting to the point where streetwear brands are making Paraboot merch.
In its first Paraboot collaboration, 25-year-old OBEY updates the climbing-inspired Montana shoe through pebbled black leather, yellowy-green contrast stitching, and embossed branding on the tongue. It’s handsome hiking-inspired stuff, though we’ve come to expect that from Paraboot's many excellent collaborations.
What makes OBEY’s collection distinct is everything beyond the shoes. The American streetwear label created a full Paraboot-branded uniform to wear with its limited-edition Montana shoe.
Paraboot clothing is a rarity. The brand only sells footwear on its website and leaves the clothes to a select few collaborations, like last year’s Universal Works collection.
But Paraboot streetwear? That’s new.
OBEY’s four-piece clothing selection is a typically graphic affair, taking a logo normally woven into small hangtags and blowing it up onto clothing like a button-down shirt with Paraboot's signature prominently printed across the front and a boxy tee with both parties’ branding on the chest. The accompanying beige chinos are more subtle, though.
You don’t have to be a master of leather shoes to recognize Paraboot shoes, or at least their quality. But this collection, releasing on March 19, lays it all out in the open.
