Since rebranding from Spike to the Paramount Network, the cable channel has already notably brought the true story of David Koresh's standoff between his Branch Davidian followers and the F.B.I./A.T.F. to life with a 6-part miniseries, Waco.
As a continuation of their exploration of real life happenings, they've recently released the trailer for the unscripted documentary series, Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, which tells the story of an unarmed 17-year old high school student shot and killed by a neighborhood watch member, George Zimmerman, in the Florida community where they both lived.
The outrage for many was further enhanced when Zimmerman was later acquitted of a second-degree murder charge after claiming he shot Martin in self-defense.
Executive produced by JAY-Z, the press release indicates that the series delves deep into the heart of the story which is more than a tragic narrative about a young man’s life cut short - it’s a story about race, politics, power, money, and the criminal justice system.
Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story premieres in July on Paramount Network.
