Uefa EURO 2020 has been postponed for a year until summer 2021. This was confirmed by the Norwegian and Swedish football associations and is a measure to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The tournament was scheduled to take place in June and July across 12 different European host nations in celebration of the 20th Uefa EURO tournament. Domestic competitions such as the Bundesliga and Spain’s La Liga have already been suspended indefinitely due to the spread of the virus, as have Uefa’s own Europa League and Champions League tournaments.

It was widely expected that EURO 2020 would follow suit, mainly due to the fact that it was to be played across so many different countries and the travel of fans and teams would have exacerbated the issue.

At time of writing, Uefa have not released a statement, though they have confirmed a meeting today regarding COVID-19’s impact on European football.
