Previously available only through her website, alternative R&B singer Kelis has officially released the lead single off her upcoming album, Food, due out April 21. "Jerk Ribs" marks a long-awaited comeback, with her first LP since 2010. The single feels distinctly '90s in style, moving away from the more mainstream pop sounds we've previously heard and focusing instead on a raw, soulful, trip-hop sound. The album is being released via the independent London-based record label Ninja Tune, which is an interesting move for a world-class talent who has previously always called major labels such as Interscope home. It will no doubt allow her the creative freedom she deserves, away from the constraints often put in place by major labels.
