Location: Paris, France
Season: Spring/Summer 2018
Key Pieces: Oversized graphic tees, bright nylon backpacks, Undercover x Cream Soda trucker jackets, Undercover x Cream Soda patched denim.
Editor’s Notes: Designer Jun Takahashi goes digging through his personal archives for his latest collection. Largely inspired by subcultures past and present, like Japanese youth who wore rail workers’ uniforms as a form of subversion, looks also skew towards New Romance and punk.
This season also sees the re-launch of Undercover Records, not a true music label, but rather a sub-collection of clothing inspired by bands made up by Takahashi with names like Brain Castle and Twin Ginsberg. All the fictitious tour dates are placed far off in the future, like the year 2075, and graphics contain a mix of German phrases and Arabic typefaces.
There is also a collaboration with Cream Soda, a seminal Japanese rockabilly label founded in 1967 by Masayuki Yamazaki. The collaboration also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Cream Soda.
