[UPDATE] September 28, 2018 4:29 a.m. EST Following an initial look, Kanye West has returned to Instagram to share the most detailed preview yet (above) of adidas's much-anticipated YEEZY basketball sneaker.

The article below has been updated to reflect the new information.

Kanye West has taken to Instagram once again, this time giving us our closest look yet at YEEZY's new basketball sneaker. Whereas ’Ye had previously shared on-foot shots of the kicks, he has now come through with some close-ups which highlight the details.

It has been rumored for a while that West’s adidas line has been working on a basketball kick. Those rumors intensified when West was seen testing basketball YEEZYs at UCLA in mid-2017 and were later apparently confirmed when the rapper tweeted rough sketches of YEEZY’s 2019 lineup, including a silhouette labeled “basketball.”

In the photo above, the rapper is seen wearing a high-top that features reflective 3M material on the heel and lateral and medial sides. The kicks appear to have a mixed-material construction and what looks like an enclosed, full-length Boost midsole under a translucent rubber material.

Previously, Nice Kicks had shared what appeared to be the first up-close look at the YEEZY basketball shoe, albeit in an all-black colorway (below). The sneaker in the shot featured the same Boost midsole covered by translucent rubber as seen on other adidas models such as the Crazy Explosive. Elsewhere, the high-top upper featured suede and leather over- and underlays.

Now that West has shared close-up shots, we can say that the all-black colorway is a different shoe (presumably a sample). Although similar, there are definitely some minor differences. The paneling on the lateral and medial sides seems to be a little different, as does the suede overlay on the toe of the sneakers.

So far, no official word has come from either adidas or West’s camp about the shoe's release. However, with the rapper having now been seen wearing several high-top, performance-looking YEEZY sneakers even before this latest teaser, the first performance YEEZY kicks might finally be on their way in 2019.

With that said, earlier reports had suggested a YEEZY basketball sneaker would hit retail shelves as far back as 2017. At the time, there were rumors that certain athletes —presumably those signed to adidas already — would soon be hitting NBA courts in b-ball YEEZYs. That never happened, of course, although players such as Nick Young have played in non-basketball YEEZYs in the past.

Could 2019 finally be the year we see YEEZY basketball sneakers in the NBA? Leave your thoughts below.
