Now imagine that same scenario, but you’re also wearing a Starbucks parka. 

No, this isn’t fodder for a fever dream. The American coffee company collaborated with Japanese outerwear brand and wander for a merch line that actually makes sense. The Tokyo-based brand, founded by two former Issey Miyake designers, has staked a claim to being one of the most understated but luxe designers of really great outdoor gear.

Starbucks may be a mega chain, but again, coffee is coffee. This linkup lends the brand an artisanal level of surprisingly authentic swag. 

That’s because this isn’t just a cheap merch ploy. Every item is sublimely luxurious because much of the collection simply builds on and wander’s own existing pieces or introduces new products that actually fit both brands. There’s and wander’s classic pocket T-shirt with its own mini carabiner and silicone‑coated nylon daypacks. And that parka? Made from a water-repellent nylon taffeta. But then there’s also a bottle holder made with jacquard tape plus stainless steel, heat-resistant mugs. 

Seeing the world’s largest coffee chain work with and wander, a great but admittedly niche outerwear label, is a major co-sign of its quality gear. And it comes at a perfect moment. Going outside has never been hotter and athleticwear has grown up; both Arc’teryx and The North Face have dedicated luxury labels, while collections like and wander and Roa have turned nature into an earthy runway for sleek technical gear. 

Starbucks wanting in on the trend isn’t a surprise. But someone at its HQ recognizes true outerwear drip when they see it? That certainly is.
