According to a new IndieGoGo campaign, Atari's VCS is slated to be available for pre-order beginning May 30.

While it has the facade of a retro console, the guts of the Atari VCS are more in line with the requirements of modern gaming, boasting a custom processor via Radeon Graphics Technology that offers 4K resolution, HDR and 60FPS content. Additional features include onboard and expandable storage options, dual-band WiFi, plus Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 3.0 support.

The console also comes pre-loaded with Atari Vault, a game collection of over 100 classic Atari titles like Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command. The VCS will also support "a full range of popular modern titles" which have yet to be announced.

The Atari VCS Collector's Edition console comes equipped with a special retro-inspired wood-front, while fans will have the option to pre-order the more modern, black Atari VCS Onyx, priced at $200. The price of the Collector's Edition is not currently known and it's also unclear what kind of controller the consoles ship with, if any.

Additional packages offered through IndieGoGo will include the classic joystick and modern controller. Look for the campaign to open at the end of the month, with shipping planned for Spring 2019. In the meantime, watch Atari engineers play Centipede with the Classic Joystick below.
