Pharrell’s Latest adidas Is One Strange Looking Water Shoe
Somewhere between a water shoe and a trail sneaker, Pharrell Williams’ latest adidas creation is difficult to categorise. Which, frankly, is part of the appeal.
The PW Water Moc is the latest release from the ongoing adidas Originals by Pharrell Williams partnership, arriving as part of the VIRGINIA universe.
Following the futuristic Jellyfish and more pared-back Flat Earther, the Water Moc takes things outdoors, reworking adidas’ early-2000s Adventure Water Moc for a new generation.
This yellow, black, and silver version is certainly not trying to blend in. The bright neon-like yellow upper brings plenty of personality, while the chunky sole and sculptural overlays give it a distinctly futuristic feel. There’s also a practical side to the whole thing, with a slip-on shape and water-ready construction that makes it surprisingly well suited to actual adventures. If you’re into that kinda thing.
The fun of Pharrell’s adidas projects has always been their ability to turn functional ideas into something that feels at home in fashion, and the Water Moc is no different. Wear it with shorts on holiday, loose trousers around town, or whenever your outfit could use something slightly unexpected.
The PW Water Moc is set to drop on adidas’ website for $140 on September 5.
