Balenciaga is not known for its minimal style; actually, the complete opposite is true. Contemporary Balenciaga has made its name with a slew of controversies (some larger than others.) Whether it’s in the form of alien footwear designs, trash bag bags, or dropping shredded canvas kicks for $1850, Demna knows how to make some noise.

But, behold, Balenciaga just dropped a very understated sneaker. That’s right, the fan-favorite Balenciaga Track.3 Sneaker has been given a soft, neutral new look with a brown mesh base and black & white leather overlays.

The Balenciaga Track.3 Sneaker was already one of the label’s more wearable kicks in terms of silhouette. Without a platform or extended sole unit, it takes the form of a fairly regular trail sneaker; the only Balenciaga touches come in the form of ripped panels to the upper for a typically disheveled finish.

Seeing as much of modern Balenciaga’s image has been built by out-there footwear — remember the power of the Triple-S? — it’s a bold choice for the house to opt for something more neutral here. Whether it’s a sign of a calmer season for Balenciaga or simply a brief let-up from the madness, we’re here for it.
