Identified by its mint green midsole, adidas’ 4D technology is just one example of the German brand’s impressive ability to remain at the forefront of sneaker innovation, across generations. The 4D isn’t lauded for its “Aero Green” base alone, either. As well as being a thing of beauty, its complex latticed midsole is described as the first performance footwear made with light and oxygen.
Using 17 years of performance data captured from athletes, the 3D printed 4D shoes are fine-tuned for optimum support, cushioning, and stability. The 4D is a groundbreaking shoe, in every sense of the word, and you can shop the adidas Originals x Pharrell Williams 4D, as well as ZX and AlphaEDGE editions below.

adidas Originals x Pharell Williams 4D
Adding new sneakers to a partnership that began in 2016, Pharrell Williams and adidas recently released their joint-effort spin on the 4D, heralding a long-awaited first time for Pharell working with the silhouette. The revolutionary sole is paired up with both purple and olive green uppers across the two new colorways which bring new stitched detailing to the line.
adidas Originals ZX 4000 4D
The adidas ZX running series, which first appeared in the ’80s, was also revolutionary for its time, mixing sports science with wearability. adidas being adidas, the brand decided to take that revolution a little further by melding the ZX and 4D. What we get as a result is a retro-looking runner with future-forward capabilities.
adidas AlphaEDGE 4D
While still making use of the celebrated adidas 4D midsole and sticking with the silhouette’s tried and tested tech, the AlphaEDGE iteration goes for a slightly different aesthetic. Extra details come in the form of the heel tab, but this is still one sleek piece of footwear. You’ll also find the Stella McCartney AlphaEDGE below, taking things even more minimal and going ultra-light on branding.
