With every changing season, a spectrum of new colors return to the fashion spotlight. Gone are the dreary days of wintry earth tones and all-black ’fits, as we make way for a bolder, brighter palate in our wardrobe.
But knowing how to make some of these brighter color trends pop after months of monochrome is not something that comes easy for everyone. And, though we’re hesitant to outline outright rules, recent street style looks, runway debuts, and designer lookbooks have offered up ample ways to optimize certain shades.
Below, we’ve formed some ’fits for all budgets around some particularly steezy summer color combinations. Scroll on to learn what to rock with pastels, where to introduce hot pink, and how to start forming those head-turning looks for summer.
Green, Orange & White
Vibrant shades such as orange and green are the perfect way to enjoy the sunshine in style, especially when combined with neutral hues like white. The look above, in particular, is one of the coolest ways we’ve seen it worn in recent times.
To pull off the same look, you can go with a white bucket hat from Kangol, paired with a Colorful Standard all-green hoodie (or Cav Empt‘s number if you’re after a graphic option) and a pair of orange track pants by Stüssy. When it comes to your kicks, you can never go wrong with an all-white pair of Nike Air Force 1s or Prada‘s latest Cloudbust sneakers, if you’ve got it like that.
Brown, Blue & Yellow
Though brown may be more of a fall/winter color, pairing it with shades such as yellow and blue is a surefire way to stand out from the crowd this spring/summer season, too.
Don’t know where to begin? Try going with a U.P.W.W. blue workwear jacket over a faux silk yellow button-down from Urban Outfitters, paired with a pair of brown linen pants from Tibi‘s SSENSE-exclusive collection. Alternatively, designer label lovers can also opt for a classic yellow shirt by COMME des GARÇONS and Moncler Genius‘ logo-embossed blue jacket designed by Craig Green.
White, Red & Black
Last but not least, you can never fail with a warm color such as red. The color is already pretty eye-catching on its own, so proceed with caution when trying to mix and match. This summer, our favorite way to wear it is by pairing red with neutral hues such as white and black.
When it comes to dope red pieces, you can never go wrong with a pair of pants, and brands such as Opening Ceremony and Juun.J constantly bring the heat in that department. We recommend wearing the pants with a classic white hoodie, something Stüssy always does well. As far as white sneakers go, the options are endless, with our current favorite being Acne Studios‘ chunky Rockway.
